[Windows Ident Server] Service not "working" on Vista Zanejin -

Hello!
I sent you an email on this a while ago but have not received a response. I understand if you're busy with other things.
First of all, thanks for writing the Windows Ident Server; makes IRC smoother for me (I use irssi on Windows Vista SP2 32-bit). However, the WinIdentSvc service, which I have installed using "run as administrator", is not replying to Ident requests sent by IRC even though WinIdent.exe does this fine. I've tried
manually restarting the service and also rebooting—no use.
How can I mitigate this issue? I'd much rather have just the service running than starting up with the application.
Thanks!
Zanejin
Windows Ident Server 2.0 as service Eugene V. Subbotin -

When I trying to use rndware identd server running as service on Windows XP SP3 or Windows 7, the userid response from server is "SYSTEM" but not currently logged in user. How can I change this behaviour to normal userid responses?
Is there some ways to install identd via GPO with installing it as service on all workstations in domain?

Eugene V. Subbotin:
That is intended behavior. WinIdent has no way of knowing which user is logged in.
You could make a login script that would update the text file. I think there's an example included in the Windows Ident Server help document.

I can't say what causes this from the information you've given me. It might be a firewall or a permissions issue.

Hi, Simon:
Thanks for the idea; I'd only considered permissions before. It did turn out to be a firewall issue—just needed to add WinIdentSvcApp.exe as an exception.
